Police Crack Down on Anti-Social Behaviour with Lichfield Dispersal Order

Dispersal Order Issued in Lichfield City Centre to Tackle Anti-Social Behaviour

Staffordshire Police have put a dispersal order in place across Lichfield city centre this weekend to proactively address rising anti-social behaviour, particularly involving groups of young people.

The order, under Section 34 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act, came into effect at 3 pm on Friday, 6 February 2026 and will remain in force until 3 pm on Sunday, 8 February 2026.

It covers the main city centre area, including spots like Beacon Park and Stowe Pool where recent incidents have been reported. Officers now have extra powers to direct anyone they believe is contributing to or likely to contribute to anti-social behaviour to leave the designated zone and not return for up to 48 hours. Failure to comply can lead to arrest.

Police said the measure follows an increase in reports of large groups gathering, being abusive, causing nuisance and engaging in disorderly conduct. The dispersal order is designed to prevent escalation, reassure residents and visitors, and allow people to enjoy the city centre safely.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police explained that the order is a preventative step to tackle the problem head-on over the busy weekend period. They urged parents and guardians to speak to young people about the powers in place and the importance of respectful behaviour in public spaces.

Residents have welcomed the action amid concerns over recent disorder, while police emphasised that the majority of visitors to Lichfield behave responsibly and the order targets only those causing issues.
