In a significant escalation of efforts to combat high-harm criminal activities, Staffordshire Police have announced the arrest of over 350 individuals as part of their ongoing Operation Target. This crackdown focuses on disrupting serious and organised crime networks involved in drug supply, illegal firearms, cyber-crime, and human trafficking across the county.

The operation, which involves planned raids and intelligence-led investigations, has resulted in 121 of those arrested being charged with various offences. Collectively, these charges have led to prison sentences totaling 439 years. Additionally, authorities seized three firearms during the operations, further hampering the capabilities of criminal groups.

Operation Target, launched in May 2023, represents Staffordshire Police’s commitment to proactively targeting offenders and protecting vulnerable communities from exploitation.  Since its inception, the initiative has expanded to address county lines drug distribution, modern slavery, and other sophisticated criminal enterprises. Previous phases of the operation have seen even larger cumulative figures, including over 1,000 arrests for drugs and weapons-related offences, the removal of tens of thousands of pounds worth of illicit substances from circulation, and the safeguarding of victims such as children groomed by drug dealers and adults trapped in exploitative situations.

Detective Superintendent Nicki Addison, head of Major and Organised Crime at Staffordshire Police, emphasized the collaborative nature of the effort: “Our major and organised crime proactive teams and wider force specialist and local policing teams have had a relentless year working day in day out to disrupt major criminals operating across and causing harm within our county. This continuing work is a real team effort, with proactive and reactive policing teams combining to help us identify and detain offenders and take harmful drugs, weapons and people off our streets.”

The success of these operations relies heavily on community intelligence and partnerships with local authorities, health services, and third-sector organizations. Police have conducted stop searches, executed proactive warrants, and coordinated raids, such as those in Rugeley and Stoke-on-Trent, where significant drug hauls and cash were confiscated.  Notable convictions include multi-year sentences for drug conspiracy and possession of illegal weapons, demonstrating the force’s determination to secure justice.

This latest wave of arrests underscores Staffordshire Police’s unwavering resolve to make the county safer by dismantling organised crime at its roots. Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activities through official channels to support ongoing investigations. As Operation Target continues, further updates are expected as police build on these achievements to protect the public and hold criminals accountable.
