Stone, UK – February 4, 2026 – Investigative and preparatory activities for a significant road repair project in Stone’s town centre are scheduled to commence next week, setting the stage for extensive improvements this summer.

The upcoming works encompass drainage assessments, CCTV inspections, and road surface evaluations, all aimed at refining the design for the primary structural maintenance initiative. This main project will target the town centre ring road, encompassing Stafford Street, Crown Street, Newcastle Street, Christchurch Way, and Radford Street, with an expected completion time of two weeks.

Commencing on Monday, February 9, the initial phase will feature overnight road closures through Friday, February 13. The following week, aligning with the schools’ half-term break, will involve daytime lane closures and temporary traffic signals to reduce inconvenience.

The full-scale maintenance is slated for mid-June through August, with detailed plans to be announced nearer the date.

Patrick Allen, Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet support member for highways, commented on the project: “A major road maintenance scheme is planned for the Stone ring road this summer which will bring huge improvements for motorists around a busy and thriving town. To ensure the design and preparation is thorough, these investigative works over the next fortnight are essential. Not only will they ensure we have a high-quality scheme, but also that it can be carried out as quickly as possible. This phase has been planned to coincide with the half-term break to minimise disruption, with the bulk of the main scheme taking place during the summer holidays. We understand that with any traffic management however, particularly on such a busy route, there will inevitably be some disruption for which we would like to apologise for in advance. We’re always grateful for people’s understanding wherever we’re carrying out improvements.”

This initiative underscores the council’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure while striving to limit impacts on the local community.
